Summary of Past Few Months

Wow! I have been negligent these last few months it seems, but much has gone on. The school year ended well, with four happy students hoping to return next year. We had several fields and activities, including visiting and assisted living center and sharing some music with them. And we are busy planning for next year of course. Please pray God will bring the right children for us again.

We will be having VBS next week, so please keep that in your prayers. We are also planning on having an evangelistic series in August (it actually starts the 29th ), so please keep that in your prayers as well.

That's all I have time to write right now, but I'll try to keep you better updated. God bless you!

Christmas at Kayenta

2016 is here and speeding by already, and somehow our December update didn't get written in December. (Sound familiar to anyone?)

Anyway, in December the school held a Christmas program which turned our quite nice. Unfortunately not a lot of people were able to attend but we're thankful for the ones that did.

Fun at school

We also had our annual white elephant Christmas party, which had a good attendance (as normal). Everyone had fun!

The cooking class went on Christmas break too, and will be starting up again next week. Please pray for it.

Have a blessed 2016!

School Update

Popcorn night
School has had a lot better of a start this year, with one student really liking it, and another starting soon. It's hard to believe how fast time is going!

A field trip had been planned for today, but due to weather we won't able to go. So instead we cooked (she loves cooking)! We've also gone to the flea market and had a popcorn night. And our fall festival is coming right up!

At the flea market
To supplement what we've been learning in social studies, we are looking for a penpal or two for our second grader. If you know anyone about that age who would like a friend, have them send an introductory letter to Kayenta Christian School, PO Box 3793, Kayenta, AZ 86033.

Here's hers:

Hi!
I'm Kayla and I'm 8 years old. I like cooking and I like music and science and school. I like playing and helping and sharing and forgiving and reading and typing. What do you like to do?
Your friend,
Kayla

And It Begins Again

Time has a flown, and after a summer break it's time for things to resume. Tomorrow we begin a second school year. We are so excited to see what God has in store for this year!

And on Monday our cooking classes will resume. We will be having a few of the navajos who have been faithful attendees and have tried the recipes at home helping with the demonstrations.

Please pray that God will continue to bless our efforts has we seek to spread His glory in the dark corners here!

Destination Paradise: VBS!

Just 2 weeks ago we were setting for a Hawaii-themed VBS program put on by our friends from the Prescott and surrounding churches. With approximately 20 kids attending each day, it was a busy time for all. Here are a few pictures:

Carol did a great job leading and holding the interest of the kids!

Fruit for snack one day

Craft time!

Concentrating on his craft

Another craft was weaving. Grandma Marie did a great job leading the crafts!

Water days are a favorite!

Mission report time!

Everyone got to pick out a prize on the last day

Spring (Update #2)

Update from March, April, and May:
Only a couple weeks after returning from the retreat we dive right into a depression seminar, which lasted through May. Although the attendance was small, we did have some come regularly.

Around the same time, I received a phone call asking if I would take a student we had had earlier this year back, and a sibling of theirs. And so for the last quarter we had school consistently again.

April went smoothly, with the depression seminar and other activities continuing as usual.

In May, the school held a Science Night (see pictures below), the depression seminar ended, and we closed out the school year with a picnic.

Preparing for it

One of the kids made a balloon powered car
The other did the coke and mentos experiment

And then everyone got to plant some seeds

Retreat (update #1)

Update from February:
The last week in February workers from around the rez gathered in Prescott for a retreat. We were very blessed to have Dale Goodson (from AFM) there to conduct the meetings, and learned a lot. We only wish we'd learned a lot of it sooner! Now we are seeking to find ways to implement it and keep the fire going.

We spent considerable time going back to The Word

(For those who don't know, Dale Goodson worked as a missionary for a number of years and has worked with AFM as a trainer for a number of years.)

"Cross cultural work doesn't have to be complicated. If you understand how to take the principles of God's Word and build a Christ-centered culture, you've got it." - Dale Goodson
